System voice options for Snap&Read:*

On PC you are limited to the voices associated with the region of Windows installation and (Online) Voices. Example: For the Windows 10 US region under the Voice option you have the option for David, Mark and Zira. Under Translate voice you will find the (Online) voice options.**

On Chromebooks you have the Chrome eSpeakNG, Chrome OS and (Online) voices*. The Chrome eSpeak-NG voices are synthesized and sound more robotic. Chrome OS voices are the default system voices. You can add more eSpeakNG and Chrome OS voices from text to speech option that is found under the devices Accessibility settings.

Steps:

Click on the clock on the Chrome shelf.

Click on the settings cog.

Click on Accessibility.

Click on Text-to-Speech

Click on Text to speech voice settings.

Under Speech Engines

Click on settings to the right eSpeak-NG or Chrome OS built-in text-to-speech extension

Toggle on the eSpeak-NG voice you would like to add

or

Install the Chrome OS built-in voice.

Reboot the device

The next time you go to the Snap&Read options the voice will appear under Translate voice for that language.

On Mac system voices are used for both the Voice and Translate voice options.

You can add Mac system voices by following the steps below:

Navigate to: System settings>>Accessibility>>Spoken Content

Click on the voice name to the right of System voice.

Select, Manage Voices.

Select the Language on the left hand side.

On the right hand side click on the play button next to the voice for a preview.

To download the voice Click on the download icon on the right of the voice.

The next time you go to the Snap&Read options the voice will appear under Translate voice for that language.

ON iOS devices:

You can add iOS system voices by following the steps below:

Navigate to: System settings>>Accessibility>>Spoken Content

Tap on Voices.
Tap on the Language you are looking for. (If the language is not listed a voice option is not available)

Tap on the voice you would like to download.

Tap on the cloud to the right of the voice to start the download.

Select the Language on the left hand side.

After the voice is downloaded log out of Snap&Read

Reboot the device

Log Back into Snap&Read

When you are in the Snap&Read iOS app that voice will now be available as a translate option.***

*Not all translate languages have a voice option. When no voice option is available it will display "No (language name) Voice installed".

**If you do not see any (online) voice options on PC or Chromebooks make sure your IT has the Snap&Read URLs added to the Whitelist.

***The iOS system voices are only available in the Snap&Read iOS app and not the Snap&Read iOS Safari Extension.

Whitelist items can be found in the Universal extension requirements help article that can be found in the link below:
